Valencia, October 2026
FYLA has been featured in Valencia Plaza in an article about our role in Iris-Semicon. The project is part of the KSSP programme, promoted by the governments of Spain and South Korea to strengthen cooperation in semiconductors.
Within Iris-Semicon, FYLA is developing an advanced ultrafast laser system to inspect and repair semiconductor devices. It is designed for quality inspection during manufacturing, helping to detect defects and making inspection and repair more precise. Samsung is the potential end user of the technology, and the first tests on its production lines are planned for 2029.
The technology has already gone through pilot tests on earlier systems and equipment. FYLA has also evaluated it together with universities and CERN.
A Korean delegation in Valencia
On 26–27 October, FYLA hosted a delegation of Korean partners:
- Mutech, which specialises in optical inspection, metrology and laser processing
- KIMM, the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials
- Hanbat National University
- Seoultech, the Seoul National University of Science and Technology
The visit also took the delegation to other members of the Valencian photonics and microelectronics ecosystem, including UPV research groups, UPVFab, NTC, HYBPIC, Maxlinear and VLC Photonics. Izertis, FYLA’s Spanish partner in Iris-Semicon, also took part.
Our CEO, Pere Pérez-Millán, called the visit “a great opportunity for the whole ecosystem.” He highlighted the value of the delegation getting to know other Valencian companies and universities as well as FYLA. The visit follows earlier FYLA trips to South Korea, and the team will return in April to keep working on photonics, inspection and metrology, automation and advanced manufacturing.
For FYLA, Iris-Semicon is an important step in taking our ultrafast fiber laser technology from research and pilot testing into large-scale industrial use.
